His form exploded from the long shadows that bathed the Sethian Courtyard, the sun barely hanging in the sky. It cast an eerie light on the shattered city, and made the visage of the enraged Sage of Shadows all the more terrifying. He looked like some sort of unholy abomination, some horrible creature wrought forth from the world beyond. The Soul Fire covered his body like a bon fire, burning as brilliantly as the very Arc of Fire. The strange aqua Nether energy raged in Daegan’s eyes, completely taking over his entire eye socket. Large bolts of the energy arched and crackled around his eyes as the Sage stood firm in the center of the Courtyard.
Dark, inky tendrils of shadows seethed and surged about his entire form, seemingly fueled by the burning Soul Fire. They took on images, demonic faces and horrible serpents wrapping around and then falling back to the ground. A frenzy of bizarre creatures gorging themselves on some unseen food. Slowly, Daegan held the Arc of Shadows above his head, tightly in his right hand. The Arc of Dreams burned fiercely, resting on his right collar bone, visible even through the Soul Fire and shadow. The purple flame resting where one of the Sage’s hearts was.
The Arc of Shadows shimmered as everything went still for a split second. The calm before an intense sonic boom that ripped through the entire city of Sethia. Every shadow in every corner of the city echoing and amplifying Daegan’s bellow.
“SITHERACK!”[/b]
Daegan closed his eyes for a brief moment, the Soul Fire cracking over his eyelids as he looked through the shadows of the city. The serpentine tendrils exploded away from his body, surging outwards to swarm about the city. Searching for the cause of the extreme pain he felt. Searching for his new found mortal enemy.
“FACE YOUR JUDGEMENT!”[/b]
Another sonic boom rocked the city. The Sedi that had already gathered in the city would be terrified, especially if they could see the cause of the booming voices. Daegan’s hair was blowing violently in the silent maelstrom that was the Soul Fire. His mouth agape in mourning, tears still streaming down his face. Exhaustion was setting in.
Just as Daegan was going to roar outwards again, his vision started to go blurry. He still hadn’t recovered fully from large amount of energy expelled the day the Sedian Nation was destroyed, and he was expelling an extreme amount of energy now, taking control of every shadow within the Sedian capital. His head started to pound and become light as he stumbled forward, faint voices echoing in his ears. The voices of his daughters. It drove him mad.
Daegan dropped to his knees and screamed out and openly. His back arched as he screamed into the skies, the shadows pooling around him and exploding upwards like a geyser, Soul Fire twisting around the column of shadow like a fiery snake. The plume of energy only lasted a few moments. Daegan slumped over onto his side just the resulting sonic boom from his cry of pain rocked the city a third time. The fierce roar that made solid stone structures not affected by the temporal jump of the Sedi quiver. Dust rattled and rocks shook.
But it all faded away as Daegan slipped off into exhaustion. The shadows covered his body as he lay there, still tightly gripping the Arc of Shadows. Slowly, his form seemed to sink into the ground, leaving behind the long shadow of a fountain as Daegan’s form vanished from Sethia.
Seconds later, the Sage’s bedchambers flickered and, for the second time, a fallen figure appeared from the shadow. Daegan’s unconscious body flickered into view, Lomes still resting in her comatose state at the opposite end of the bed. All traces of the Soul Fire were gone from Daegan, his eyes closed. Even if his eyes were visible the ring about his eyes would hardly been seen. He was drained once more.
The only thing that told the Sage was still alive was the steady rise and fall of his chest and the occasional shimmer from the Arc of Shadows; a casual tendril snaking across the Sage’s body here and there. The only thing that burned on Daegan now was the Arc of Dreams, which seemed unnaturally bright. Almost as bright as moments before when Daegan was in Sethia.
The Sage of Shadows was regaining his energy and strength, reluctantly as Lasius had suggested. And the only reason he was doing it now was because he had no choice. He expelled far too much energy in his grief. And now, he was deep in the land of dreams.[/color]
