She remained silent watching Daegan for over a full minute after Lasius departed, she was thinking, and thinking hard, there was so much that she needed to say and do and so little time to do it in, of course time was always putty to her given she had the strength to manipulate it. She wondered what strength she had left now, perhaps enough to do what needed to be done, perhaps.
She closed her eyes and brought her forefingers to her temples, the shimmering Arc of dreams covering her fingers and seeming to emit a light of its own in the dim confines of the room. Instinct was a funny thing some times, it took over ones thoughts, consumed ones mind and reason until there was only the driving need to fulfill it present. Instinct possessed its own memories.
“He hasn't told you everything you know.”
Daegan’s eyes narrowed slightly at Lasius’ words before the man vanished, and his lips quivered for a second, pulling back into a half snarl. He once more curled his fingers around the Arc of Shadows, closing his eyes and sighing. The Necromancer took slight solace in the fact that the soul of his mortal – and now seemingly immortal – enemy was almost assuredly trapped within the Soul Fire well in his ante chambers. That presence of nether energy in close proximity to a soul rivaled the Arc of Death; in some respects at least.
The Sage, however, did not move. He stood firm, seemingly staring ahead blankly at the spot that Lasius had once encountered. Daegan winced only slightly with the strange source of new light and after what seemed like lifetimes his head tilted. His gaze shifted from the blank looking wall to the small form of Lomes.
“Hasn’t told me everything? What do you mean?”
Despite the care that showed in his eyes, almost lost from the burning ring of Soul Fire, his voice was cold and flat. The gravity of what was just laid upon him was ridiculous to say the least. Once again all of existence was threatened, and now the wretched Draconians were possibly back? Another drop of blood struck the cold, dark floor below as Daegan turned to face Lomes full on.
She opened her eyes to see him gazing at her, her eyes were paler green than they had been after the accident, another minute sign of her weakening state, but she knew now what weakened her and drew strength from her so rapidly and concern had melted away. That concern however was replaced with a more primal fear something that caused her skin to prickle and the hair on the back of her neck to raise.
“He has been keeping things from you, primarily to protect you from it, but regardless you cannot exist in the dark unaware of what goes on under your nose. Even if he would have it such I'll not allow it.”
She contemplated what she had discovered and chose carefully the order in which she presented him the information, too much too quickly might push a person into shock, make them numb to the true weight of the situation that was approaching them, however she had faith in Daegan's ability to cope and so she placed that faith in him now.
”The first, and perhaps smallest thing he has kept from you is the true extent of the power he has recently gained. Right now unaided he could handle half the energy he would be able to call forth wielding the Arc of Lightning, and still not break a sweat. The depths of what he could potentially call forth now unaided if he stretched himself to his limit is beyond my ability to measure at this point.”
There was a silent hiss as Daegan’s eyes narrowed at her words. It wasn’t an extreme sign of anger, but it was still obvious. In part, Daegan was mad at himself that he had not been more aware of the situation himself. He could see virtually everything from the shadow with a mere thought. And then his skin went even paler as he glanced down at the Arc of Shadows, the weight of what Lasius had said sinking into his consciousness with full force. Another drop of blood fell from his clenched hand, but this time it didn’t strike the floor. A tendril of shadow snapped from utter nothingness a mere second after the droplet fell, absorbing the crimson liquid.
“That would explain the new lightning wardrobe.”
It was a slight downer to Daegan as well. The sheer fact that Lasius had returned alone was enough to diminish his pride. Before the whole of the land was destroyed and with Sitherack to the north, the Sedi to the south viewed Daegan as the most powerful Lord General in existence. But now, it seemed all eyes were focused on the Lightning Childe. Not that Daegan minded that much, he was never one for the lime light, but the slight feeling of underestimation was still present.
She watched his reaction curiously, Sedi were complex creatures, driven by things that most other creatures rejected or tried to suppress, but they were by far the most dangerous in their design and make up. Still it was her responsibility to these people and to her own heart that drove her forward.
“There is far more I'm afraid and it only gets more painful from here. He didn't tell you that restoring my body is impossible, even with the combined power of all the Arcs and his newfound strength I cannot be repaired. He can however remake my body, this is his intention, to remake the Rod of Souls and move me into the new Rod, reforged and new once more. Of course there is aways the possibility that when I am moved I may lose myself, that I may be made new inside and out, and lose everything that makes me who I am. I would essentially be wiped clean and made anew. While it is not a certainty, it is a very real possibility.”
She paused there her voice failing her for a moment, the idea of losing her self like that was in some ways worse than death, even in death the soul remembered who it was, what it felt and what its life had held, the idea was not a pleasant one, to say the least. It didn't take her but a second to gain control of herself once more and the interruption would easily be missed unless one was watching for it.
”If that is the case I will never know who I am now, nothing can bring those memories back to me so it will be up to you to remember for me, do you understand what I am saying to you?”
Daegan shook his head. There hadn’t been any semblance of a powerful Death Sedi since Daegan’s take over of the Shadowed City of Cyrida, and while the Necromancer wasn’t a true Death Sedi, he understood the complexity of the black art. The only thing that came close was Zinerva being controlled by the Arc of Death, and soon the Necromancer would hear his daughter’s voice once more. There had to be a way to preserve Lomes’ soul, Daegan was positive of it.
“You won’t lose anything, not as long as I have anything to say about it.”
Those in proximity to Daegan’s chambers would hear fierce and loud shrieks erupt from within as the whole of the Soul Fire braziers flared for a brief moment within the Tower of Shadows. The aqua fire twitched and began to burn brilliantly in Daegan’s eyes as he watched Lomes curiously, pondering what other possible cataclysms were about to befall them.
She smiled softly, she was certain now that he would be able to do what she needed of him, she was confident in his abilities, she simply hoped she had the strength required to give him the time he would need to learn what she had to teach.
”Thats what it all comes down too however doesn't it? Time. We are out of it now, Lasius is over a thousand years older than you, he has gained power and knowledge that you cannot begin to approach at your current state, and even if you train yourself tot he limit chances are you will be steps behind him the whole way. This horde is coming, these creatures across the sea, and worse I can feel it inside. Lasius cannot be left to fight them alone, the Sedi are not ready to train as you and he are, and they blacken the earth with their numbers.”
She stood weakly from the chair she was resting in, her legs trembled slightly but she forced them still, her eyes watching Daegan carefully.
“I trust Lasius, he created me after all, he shaped my body with his own hands, forged my soul with his powers, fed my mind with all the knowledge he could find and strengthened my will with his ideals. However I cannot rely on him for what is to come, I must teach you things that are forbidden, things that have been forbidden since the creation of the multiverse. If i do not who will protect our child when I am in the dream realm?”
